Group admin: help
This page explains the Group admin screen of the MyHelpGroup app, item by item. The ? button at the top of that screen opens it.
What an administrator is
A phone set up for someone else — a child, or a parent who gets confused by menus — can have one administrator: a support member of the same group, with a password. On the owner’s phone, the administrator chooses which settings stay hidden. Hidden means gone from the screen, not greyed out, and nothing is switched off: every hidden setting keeps working exactly as it was left.
Set everything up first, then hide it. That way a fall detector, a schedule or an emergency contact cannot be undone by accident.
These are never hidden, whatever the administrator chooses:
- the Emergency button and everything that sends help;
- the answer to a check-in (“I’m OK”);
- ⋮ › Delete account — Google Play requires every user to be able to delete their own account.
Setting an administrator
On the owner’s phone, open ⋮ › Admin. The menu entry only appears on the phone of a group owner.
- Admin member — the list of the group’s active support members. Pick one. If the list is empty, the group needs a support member who has accepted the invitation first.
- Password and Repeat the password — at least 6 characters. The password never leaves the phone: the server keeps only a check that cannot be turned back into it, so nobody — not even us — can read it.
- Set admin — saves it. From now on the items ticked below are hidden on this phone.
A group has only one administrator. To change who it is, remove the current one first.
Unlocking on the owner’s phone
With an administrator set, ⋮ › Admin asks for the password.
- Unlock — shows everything again on this phone for 10 minutes, and opens the list of items. Closing the app also ends the 10 minutes.
- Too many attempts — after 5 wrong passwords in a row the screen locks for 15 minutes; each new lock doubles, up to 24 hours. Closing the app does not reset it.
- Forgot password — always available, even during a lock. See below.
Managing from the administrator’s own phone
The administrator does not need the owner’s phone. On their own phone, in ⋮ › Groups, the group shows a Manage button. It opens the same list, the password change and Remove admin. Changes reach the owner’s phone within seconds when it is online; offline, it keeps the last rules it received.
The fifteen items
Under Hide, each ticked item disappears from the owner’s phone. Tap Save after changing the ticks.
Detectors
The Detectors tab in ⋮ › Settings › General: shake, fall, vehicle crash, scream, barometer (sudden altitude change), running then sudden stop, and the flip gesture. Hidden, the detectors keep running as they were set; the person just cannot switch them off.
Sounds
The Sounds tab: vibration and sound for Emergency and Alert, Record voice on SOS, and how the check-in rings with the screen off and on. Hide it so nobody silences the check-in.
Voice and monitor
The Voice Monitor tab: the recognition language, offline recognition, what happens when help is heard (say it out loud, vibrate, flash the screen, the siren and its duration), and the custom trigger words.
Emergency contacts
The Contacts tab: up to five phone numbers that appear as call buttons during an emergency. Hidden, the buttons still appear in an emergency; only the list cannot be edited.
Appearance
The Theme card (System, Light, Dark) in the App tab.
Group options
The Groups card in the App tab: Hide invite when group is active. If both Appearance and Group options are hidden, the App tab disappears.
Schedule and check-in
In ⋮ › Settings › Schedule: the Safety alerts active switch, the days and times of the check-in, the time zone, the device memory, and the check-in settings — attempts, attempts on the watch, and Ask “Are you OK?” even while walking. Hidden, the check-in keeps asking at the times that were set.
Check-in pause
The Pause schedule card, which stops the check-in for a while. Hide it so the check-in cannot be paused. If Schedule and check-in and Check-in pause are both hidden, the Schedule tab disappears.
When every tab is hidden, ⋮ › Settings itself leaves the menu.
Monitor on/off
The Start Voice Monitor / Stop Voice Monitor button on the main screen. Hidden, the monitor stays in the state it was in.
Floating bubble
The Show Floating Button / Hide Floating Button button on the main screen — the bubble that stays over other apps for a quick emergency.
Language
The flag at the top of the main screen and ⋮ › Language. The app stays in the language it is in.
Clear credentials
⋮ › Clear Credentials, which erases the registration from this phone — the app stops working until it is registered again. On a phone set up for someone else, it is the item most worth hiding.
Invite members
The Send invite button (the person with a +) in the main screen’s top bar. Hidden, the owner cannot bring new people into the group; the administrator, or another member, still can.
Accept invites
The Accept and Decline buttons on invitations from other groups, in ⋮ › Groups and in the inbox. Hidden, the owner cannot join other groups on their own.
Leave groups
The Leave group button on groups where the owner is a member. Hidden, they cannot leave the groups that look after them.
The other buttons
- Save — sends the ticks to the server and applies them on the owner’s phone.
- Change password — type the new one twice. Any open session on another phone closes, and it asks for the new password.
- Lock now — on the owner’s phone only: hides everything again without waiting for the 10 minutes.
- Remove admin — after confirmation, every item reappears on the owner’s phone and the group has no administrator.
Forgotten password
On the owner’s phone, Forgot password sends a 6-digit code to the administrator’s email, valid for 30 minutes. Type the code and a new password twice, then Change password. Send new code asks for another one; after too many requests, wait a few minutes. If the administrator has no email on file, the password can only be changed from their own phone, with Manage.
The password itself is never sent by email, nor is any link.
Suggestions
- A child’s phone: hide everything except Appearance — above all Clear credentials, Leave groups, Accept invites, Detectors and Schedule and check-in.
- An older person’s phone: hide Clear credentials, Language, Detectors, Sounds and Check-in pause; leave the rest visible so they still feel the phone is theirs.
